Roulette House Edge
If you intend on playing online roulette then it is important to understand the house edge rather than just
rushing into playing it. The casinos offer different forms of roulette and the best to play is the French game
because it has the best odds. The worst is American roulette, I will go into a little more detail about each
one.
European Roulette House Edge
This is the most common form of roulette. Almost every online casinos primary roulette game is European. The
house edge is 2.7% and this is because of the green slot otherwise known as the zero.
I will be boring for a moment and explain why the house edge is 2.7%
A single number has a 1 in 37 chance of showing but the payout is only 35 to every 1 plus your original
wager
This means that the payout is unfair and this is what creates the house edge.
American Roulette House Edge
American roulette is the worst game you can play if you want to maximize your odds. This is because the house
edge stands at a steep 5.26%
This is because unlike European roulette there are two green slots but the payouts remain the same.
As the name suggests it is the form of roulette that's played in America, if you go to a brick and mortar casino
in Las Vegas or Atlantic city you will find the roulette wheels have two zeros, where as if you go to a casino in
Europe they only have one zero.
French Roulette House Edge
This is the best kind of roulette you can play if you want to maximize your odds, (Obviously this is the version
that I play.)
The house edge stands at 1.35% for the outside bets. French roulette is exactly the same as European roulette
except for the rules with regards to the zero.
When the ball lands on the zero you get half of your bet back if you have placed bets on any of the even money
bets.
If for example you've placed a £10 bet on red and the zero comes up you will get £5 back. It isn't ideal but
it's better than losing the whole £10.
This is why French roulette is the best and why you should choose it over the others.
