I’ve just watched England vs Germany where England produced yet another pitiful, shameful and embarrassing performance. As you know this is a roulette site and I know a lot about it but I also like to think I have a reasonable knowledge of football.
I’ve been watching football for over 20 years and I’ve seen many bad England performances but the 2010 world cup campaign is without question the worst. The problem is that there are far too many weak links in a team that never plays well together at the best of times.
Here are just a few of players who in my opinion should be embarrassed.
Gareth Barry- This man was a complete disgrace, especially against Germany and I would place him at fault for two Germany Goals. I cannot understand why he is playing ahead of Michael Carrick. I’m a Manchester United fan and there is no way that I would swap Gareth Barry for Michael Carrick.
Glen Johnson – He is without question the worst England right back that I’ve ever seen. He can be dangerous going forward but defensively he just isn’t up to the task and his ball control in this world cup was very poor.
Matthew Upson- What on earth was he doing for Germany’s first two goals? Another player that is not good enough at an international level. He’s moves like a snail and I truly feel that my ageing Dad could run as fast. To be fair he would never have been playing had the world class Rio Firdinand been playing who was injured before the tournament started by none other than Emile Heskey, the next of the weak links.
Emile Heskey- I genuinely have no clue as to how Emile Heskey continually makes the England squad, I remember being pissed off about it when he made the squad for the 2002 world cup. Picking Heskey is completely unjustified, over the years he’s never been a good player and there’s no evidence to suggest that he will get better. He cant even score in the Premier league so what on earth makes Fabio Capello think he can do it for England?
I can only assume that Heskey is blackmailing somebody high up at the FA
He was completely ineffective in England’s first two games and for reasons I cant understand the manager brought him on in the second half against Germany when England were trailing by 3 goals. Emile Heskey has never been a prolific goal scorer and I’m certain that he never will be so that is a terible decision by the manager. I will get on to him in a moment.
Heskey should never have gone to the world cup and Fabio Capello must be the only man on the planet that believes that it was a good decision. Heskey can’t score goals at club level in the premier league, there was a never a chance that he would have done it at the world cup.
Aaron Lennon – To be fair I do actually think the Aaron Lennon is a good player and I’m often impressed with his performances for Tottenham. But every time he got the ball in the world cup it was obvious that he was nervous and was far too scared to be effective. Hopefully by the next world cup he will have come of age and will be up to the task but this of course is assuming England even make it which on the evidence of what I’ve seen in South Africa is not very likely.
Shaun Wright Phillips – He was worse than Lennon and simply isn’t good enough to play for England. He struggles to get into the Manchester City team so why is he playing for England?
Wayne Rooney- Where do I even begin with him? Wayne Rooney is one of the world’s best players but in South Africa he was nothing short of an abomination. Of all the England players I honestly think that he was the worst, even worse than Heskey. Why Rooney was so bad I honestly couldn’t say, he just looked like an unfit lump.
I’m a huge Mamchester United and Wayne Rooney fan but he was an embarresment. He came into the tournament as Manchester United’s and Englands number one player and let himself down badly.
Of course nobody stood out and played well and I could probably talk about all the other players such as Gerrard and Lampard who never seem to perform for England as they do for their clubs.
So where does this leave Fabio Capello? I’m not sure exactly how much he earns but I’ve read £4.8 million a year and after the world cup performance I don’t believe that anyone on the planet will think that it’s money well spent.
England played four games. The first one against the USA was very disappointing and the second against Algeria was shambolic, the worst I’ve ever seen an England team play.
I have no idea why everyone got so excited after the 1-0 victory over Slovenia. With respect, it’s Slovenia for goodness sake, the smallest nation in the tournament. England have players who earn way in excess of £100,000 every single week, they should be beating teams like Slovenia 4-0, not hanging on for a 1-0 victory like they did.
Then they were beaten by a much better and much more efficient German side who fully deserved the win. As you probably know Frank Lampard scored a blatant goal which wasn’t allowed.
This happened just before half time and would have made the score 2-2 so who knows what would have happened. But there’s no point in kidding ourselves here, England were very poor and Germany could have had much more than the 4 goals they scored.
The entire England world cup campaign was a disgrace and I feel sorry for the people who have wasted their hard earned money and summer holiday on that bull shit.
Whether or not the English people that went to South Africa had a good time site seeing and that made up for things I couldn’t say but I have a feeling that a lot of fans will be coming home disappointed and feeling like they’ve wasted money.
**UPDATE**
There used to be a Youtube video just above showing the blatant Frank Lampard goal but Fifa keep having them removed for copyright reasons so I’ve decided simply remove the video. What’s interesting is that Fifa are happy for people to upload average world cup videos all day long. Obviously people over at Fifa as very embarrassed and don’t want people to see the goal that never was.
